A Silver Tsunami is Coming
A “silver tsunami” is soon to arrive and America is not prepared. Just consider the facts:
- The nation’s 65+ demographic currently accounts for 13 percent of the overall population is expected to exceed 89 million and 20 percent of the population by 2050. U.S. Census Bureau
- Roughly, 70 percent of adults over the age of 65 will need long-term care at some point in their lives. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- The U.S. assisted living industry totaled $42.7 billion in 2006, reached $56.3 billion in 2011 and is expected to exceed $79 billion in 2016. Kalorama Information Group
- Dementia and Alzheimer’s care programs, commonly known as memory care, is projected to increase substantially as the number of seniors diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to rise from 5.1 million in 2010 to 13.5 million in 2050. Alzheimer’s Association
We find these statistics sobering and believe a model of combined assisted living and memory care facilities is the future of senior care. Fortress will capitalize on this underserved market by developing state-of-the-art independent living; assisted living and memory care facilities in select geographic locales with leading senior housing operators to manage the facilities.
Fortress Ventures 64-unit memory care project in St. Augustine and Fortress Ventures’ 140-unit assisted living and memory care project in Fort Myers, Florida were successfully delivered on time and under budget in 2017.
